Outdoors
Most of my outdoor photography is incidental to my vocations as a hunting and fishing writer, and the editor of The Upland Soul.
I’m usually by myself and armed with a normal prime lens, shooting to accompany an article more than anything else. Still, a blind squirrel does find a nut from time to time, and the results are what you see below.
Most of my outdoors photography focuses on my home in the Mojave desert and the Great Basin that borders it. Both biomes are under-appreciated by the population at large, and contain enormous amounts of the public lands that our lifestyle is built around. Because of their perceived emptiness, they are also both at risk of disposal, and development from the renewable energy and extractive industries.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so whenever I’m able to capture the criticality of preserving these landscapes in a photo, I’m keen to pass it along in the hopes of inspiring other advocates.
